Safe ascent and descent on skies in glaciated terrain! As an experienced ski tourer you learn the basics to attempt ski tours in glacier terrain independently and on your own responsibility. The course includes basic rope and rescue techniques for glacier travel in high altitudes.
The following is a typical schedule with the guide fine tuning the plan according to the prevailing weather conditions and the experience of the group:
DAY 1:Travel by train from Innsbruck main station to Landeck and then by bus to Galtür. In Galtür you can rent your equipment at SPORT 2000/Sport Walter. Meet the guide at Sport Walter at 12:00 noon. The guide organises luggage transport to Jamtalhütte (3-5 hours ascent) After dinner: Preview of the activities of the week.
DAY 2:Refresh standards, Stop or Go, revision of transceiver search, pin point, shovel strategy, introduction to rope techniques on glacier. Planning the next day.
DAY 3: Training tour with lots of content from the day before. Planning of the next day.
DAY 4: Glacier training moving on a rope, group management, decision-making, orientation. Planning the next day.
DAY 5: Training climbing technique with crampons, fixed anchors, rescue management and first aid. Planning the next day.
DAY 6:Training climbing technique with crampons, fixed anchors, rescue management and first aid. In the evening: reflections on the week.
DAY 7:Descend to Galtür and farewell around 12:00.
In the evenings there will be theoretical units on orientation, reading maps, alpine dangers and alpine weather.
